'American Idol' Producers Fully 'Support' Nicki & Mariah.
Quote:
Despite a seemingly tumultuous week of production on "American Idol," thanks to the highly publicized spat between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey, producers say the stormy skies have cleared and that production is back on schedule.
According to a statement sent by "Idol" producers to MTV News late Friday (October 5), the incident was blown widely out of proportion and all is back to normal on set for audition rounds in Louisiana.
"This is one of the best, most passionate, dynamic and invested judging panels we've ever had. We love and support all of the judges and the fantastic work they are doing, and we can't imagine a better group to find the next American Idol," reads the statement. "Despite all the accusations and media speculation — much of which is inaccurate — production is going extremely well today and the judges are focused on finding the best talent here in Baton Rouge."
Since video of an argument between Minaj and Carey leaked online earlier this week, fans and media outlets alike have speculated whether the fight might have been staged and how it would affect the future of the show. Thanks to the comments from the producers, we now know that the show will go on, even if we'll never fully know the nature of the dispute between the two female judges.
Only time will tell if the dust has truly settled, since both women seemed to still be bothered by the incident in their varied public reactions following the fight. Carey called Minaj "unpredictable" and admitted that she hired more security during an interview with Barbara Walters on Thursday, while Minaj reacted to Carey's comments with a long-winded rant about her own "struggles" on Twitter.
"Lol @ the struggle. Not even the producers believed u. Say no to violence barbz. #struggle face," Minaj tweeted. "I don't call tmz n Barbara Walters cuz I stand on my own two feet. Never needed an army. God is good. Insecurity is as cruel as the grave."

This won't work as they expect it too. Everyone will tune in for the first few episodes to see if there are any fighting scenes cause everyone knows Minaj went really mad at Mariah, and when they realize everything has been toned down as per usual they will not tune in again. I'm excited about the future CONTESTANTS, you know, the reason the show exists. Not like anyone remembers it.

Death at the statement sounding ghetto towards the end because of Nicki's twitter rant

Live shows. The producers won't be able to edit any fighting from that easily.

Why wouldn't they be fully supportive? They're using them for ratings whether the stunt was planned or not. They're not above this drama and they're going to assure more of it is to come. It's reality tv show producers what do you expect.

The claim that Nicki threatened to murder Mariah is a lot more serious than anything Nicki tweeted. They are most likely referring to that, especially as that's what caused Nigel Lythgoe (the executive producer of Idol) to comment on the feud in the first place.

This.
Oddly even though American Idol has fallen, the ONE thing I appreciated about it was that it did actually feel more organic than some of the other shows. It's the one thing I value about it more than the Voice for example, it feels more about actual contestants then the host of judges. That isn't to say it doesn't do it's own **** for views since it is of course a T.V. show but idk, it at least felt like the contestants got some notoriety from it as opposed to the Voice who is all about boostering it's own judges fame but leaves the contestants easily forgotten.
I like the feeling of cheering on actual contestants like Kelly, Adam, and Elliot more than Team Xtina, Team Blake etc.

I still don't like that Mariah lied about nicki threatening her, a lot of simple minded people will believe it just because... even though it was confirmed false

Idol's contracts with the producers and Ryan Seacrest expire in 2014, after which the series will likely be retired. That is why the producers are taking risks to shake it up this season - they have nothing to lose. Even if the ratings halved, it would still be one of FOX's best performing series in the US, and their most popular export.

Don't be fooled by Nigel, he's loving every minute of this. Nigel is very manipulative and that's why he was asked to come back for the 10th season to bring some of that drama back after he was given the boot after season 7 (coincidentially when the ratings started to drop significantly, although I'm not saying his departure was the reason). I don't mean either he caused this, but they trust he will milk this the right way but I'm not sure how they can get away with it without another rating drop considering the kind of audience that tunes in Idol (mostly old people). This kind of conflict might turn off a lot of them.

The Tuesday episodes are always pre-recorded anyway, during the day.
It's the results shows that are live, but I believe they have a 12 second delay, which is probably enough for Nicki to be censored, similar to Steven Tyler (or Howard Stern on America's Got Talent).

For FOX, their ideal demo is 18-34 year olds that live along the East and West coasts.
Basically, one viewer aged in their 20s living in New York City, New York is worth 5x to 10x more than a viewer aged 50 living in Smallville, Kansas.
Idol clearly wants younger hipper viewers, even at the expense of the older and/or Middle American audience.

Yes I know the feeling That's why Idol was so much better with its original formula: one has-been that nobody really cared about anymore and two unknown judges that didn't care about losing fans. That right there was pure WIN. Seasons 1-8 were mostly about the contestants and they got LOTS of notoriety while they were approaching the finals, they saw their dream come true even if it was just during a few months. Some of them even went on to do great things.

You have a point. Maybe they won't care about ratings as much and put on a good show
