because the song sucks on a colossal scale. the original version was just awful and adding gaga to it actually made it worse

Because Beyoncé's version on her own was better and the collab was not needed. It should not have been released as a single. Radio was better.

Except Video Phone came first, so no one had Telephone.

I think it flopped because (while I LOVE the song), the song was way too urban for the times and is quite silly.

overshadowed by Gaga's song Telephone

No shade but Gaga's chorus killed it and put it into the coffin and Beyonce's video conciept totally nailed it and buried it 6feet under. So in short it was a disaster but the song was good.

At the time, and still, I had wanted Beyonce to release a video for Poison (an entirely new track on the re-release) instead of using an already existing track + Gaga, but then again Beyonce does what she wants and we just have to deal.
