He must be SMART. Adam (as much as I love him) did something stupid. Never alienate, but entice through music and lyrical content. Keep it focused yet universal. It's not too hard if you think about it. You need music that is great production wise yet sells albums. It can happen, but most gay stars that were out went for the stereotype. You must break that to make an impact (see Motown on how black artists on their label were seen differently).

Yes. That whole album was fantastic. And with actual gay-themed songs too.

The only possible way this could happen in the near future is if the gay male was closeted in the beginning of his career, people believed he was straight, he built up a large loyal fanbase, had multiple successful albums, THEN came out years later. An openly gay male just will not have success these days if he is open about his homosexuality from the start. Unfortunately that still, in 2012, will automatically turn a lot of people off. A majority of young teen girls (who a lot of the time make up male popstars fanbases) will lose interest because they know he won't want them and let's get real, a large portion of the reason girls fangirl over male popstars is because they are interested in them physically, and the music comes second. Straight guys probably will be reluctant to either listen to a gay male, or admit they listen to a gay male. Even if they get the support of the gay community, in comparison to the straight community, it'd barely make a blip on the radar.

I agree. And also, gay males mostly stan for females, so they won't support a gay male popstar that much ..

A hot flamboyant gay male is what we need, that is why Adam Lambert doesnt work(that and his music is mediocre)
We need someone to come and be incredibly sexual like how Britney was introduced
He needs to slay from the very beginning for him to succeed
and he needs to be shirtless 90% of the time

I don't think so. WWFM was a pretty big hit and if Adam had built on that he could've been a lot more successful. But then with If I Had You and this album's singles, it was like the label itself was digging his grave.
In the end sexuality is not that important if it's not what the artist is selling. As long as the music is "great", meaning people generally like/love it, then that's what turns songs into hits. The hardest thing for gay male artists is simply getting a record deal, cause why would a label invest in a gay male artist if they can get a straight male equivalent? The label is the barrier, not the public.

Perhaps one day I will be this gay superstar. I have so many ideas for albums, tours, videos... If only.

You seem to have a very limited perspective on society (then again you're probably 16). The condition of gay people is progressing at such an enormously rapid rate. Just 10 years ago it was unheard for a TV sitcom to depict a normal leading gay character. This season every major network has a show about gay families. 10 years ago nearly 70% of Americans opposed gay marriage. Now nearly 70% support it.
I don't see how someone can look at the amazing progress that gay people have made in such a short time and then say that there will never be a successful gay male pop artist. (Not to mention the fact that Adam Lambert can already be classified as successful with #1 albums and singles in countries all over the world, and Elton John has the best selling single in world history).

I wish we could see this too. We need more gay artists to break mainstream so they can be inspirations to all the gay teens, and not sing about girls/women. To be honest i would be happy which ever genre he would be in, just be successful. I would deff be happy if maybe like a rapper like Bry'Nt would be able to break mainstream (not likely in the near future though).

Yasssss.
Exactly what I said, and people were like "what's the point" being selfish.
The point is that he'd be an inspiration to many gay teens.
I know I'd be much happier if we had a successful gay male popstar.
He'd make me believe in myself, and know that I can do it to.

Exactly. I have already been through all that, but it would have been so much better if i had more big rolemodels to look up to and make me feel that it's okay to be gay. Adam did manage to go #1 with his new album and he was the first one to do so while being openly gay so we do see some change here, but still have a long way to go. See like Jay brannan for instance. He's said that no record company wants to sign him so he have to release independently. It's a shame cause he's really good too.
For those who don' know who Jay Brannan is, chech out his latest video Rob Me Blind.

The positive impact would be so great. Tiziano is single-handedly adding percentage points to Italian gay acceptance every day. And he's probably saving teen gay lives just by existing. Of all types of celebrities, musical artists are the ones we identify with and look up to most. It's so important that all major population groups are positively represented in popular music. All kids deserve to have someone they can identify with, who inspires and motivates them to become good people.
