orangenial music
Cake - War Pigs (Black Sabbath Cover)
Source: Stereogum
- Admittedly, I cannot completely recall how Black Sabbath's original sounded. I immediately had deja-vu when I heard this but I cannot seem to find the original, and I am not quite sure why. All I know is that Cake did a great job, but I guess it depends on the original if they truly did a good job of the cover or a mediocre job, where the original ends up beating the cover. A good song to play in the car, despite the insane chorus, at which point I would suggest making the volume really low.
The Vincent Black Shadow - This Road Is Going Nowhere
Source: altcast
- This artist has been played on Altcast a few times, and this song was recently played on Half Hour Of Power. Well, that is actually when it hit me, and so that is why this song is listed, instead of anything else. Maybe it was my mood or maybe they just had to grow on me but comparing the lead singer to No Doubt definitely had me interested... I think that is one reason I got into Stefy, except Stefy is more pop-ish.
Six songs that I feel like mentioning (in addition to the previous songs):
There is something about these songs... darn them.Beyonce f/ Shakira - Beautiful Liar
Album: B'Day (rereleased) | Year: 2007
- I refuse to see this video but the song seems to have a nice rhythm going for it. The beat seems oddly familiar but overall, good overplayed song, haha.
Fall Out Boy - Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
Album: Infinity On High | Year: 2007
- I have not kept up with Fall Out Boy singles since their first single off of this album, so not hearing this one week and then hearing it a lot of times the next did sort of surprise me. It is definitely a good catchy song, but then again, I like the album. It was just, out of no where on the radio...
Gym Class Heroes f/ Patrick Stump - Intramurals: Cupid's Chokehold
Album: As Cruel as School Children | Year: 2006
- So many kids in my grade love this song. I had not heard a lot of the songs by Gym Class Heroes, so I was not surprised when I saw Ryan mention this and had no clue about it. After checking it out, I sort of liked it, but I think it is the radio overplaying this and the kids singing it that made me remember that cute video this song had.
Muse - Starlight
Album: Black Holes And Revelations | Year: 2006
- The only reason I started to believe Map Of The Problematique was the next single was because Starlight was just being overplayed here and that usually happens when the artist has a new single out. What I did not know was that what I thought was their first single, Supermassive Black Hole, is now their third. I guess, when it came to Muse, I was living in the UK. I wish that was the case, haha.
Pink - You And Your Hand
Album: I'm Not Dead | Year: 2006
- It is sad but for some reason, the first few times I heard this song, I had no idea it was Pink. I usually like her songs (even though I prefer her older singles) so I am not surprised that this song has been stuck in my head. I just blame the radio overplaying it since originally the title, U + Ur Hand, had me avoiding the song, despite me typing like that before.
Rihanna - Umbrella
Album: Good Girl Gone Bad | Year: 2007
- Darn catchy song. I do not even know what it is about this song. I am not surprised I like the "ella"s and "ey"s because I liked Ashlee Simpson's L.O.V.E., catchy-wise, but in general even the video makes little sense. It is just like, uh, alright? Same with how the song was once introduced on my radio station, about how Beyonce almost broke it off with Jay-Z. Yay for celebrity gossip?
This ends my weekly-ish list of songs for whatever reason. Be sure to watch the
Coachella webcast sometime this weekend. As I finish off, Of Montreal is just beginning. Rufus Wainwright is next. Have a great weekend!
