Discussion: Wrong Time For Christina?

With Ke$ha, One Direction, ADELE, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Rihanna all releasing hugely hyped singles within a week of each other - not to mention Taylor Swift domination weekly - was it the wrong time for Christina Aguilera to return?

And Bruno's "Locked Out Of Heaven" will certainly be competing in the next 24 Hours. "Your Body" currently sits at #33 on iTunes with the aid of a radio premiere with iHeartRadio and its recently fan-acclaimed music video being released.

With her being on The Voice for the Fall season and no immediate plans to promote, should Christina/RCA had waited until early 2013? Or pushed Christina to spend more time recording earlier this year since we've known about "Your Body"/"Love Your Body"/"F**k Your Body" for months now?

It should be noted another track called "Blank Page" has been circling since around May 2012, so I think there was a possibility for an earlier release and she could've sat out on The Voice this season instead.

Is it the song? (which is insanely catchy, I do love it) Too much competition as newer, fresher artists make a return to the public? Or is Christina simply unable to connect with the new generation unlike countless other older acts have?

The last 10 years have been the wrong time for Christina.

But in all seriousness, the song is nothing special. It doesn't really set her apart from everything else on radio right now, and for some reason she has yet to capitalize on the giant potential promotional platform that isThe Voice. I mean the video didn't even premiere on the show

Mostly it's the song. I find it pretty bland, from the title to the concept to the hooks. I was so surprised when I heard it because I'd read nothing but raves from Jeff and the programmers at KIIS and Z100 saying it's beyond infectious and gets stuck in your head after one listen

It's not like she was gonna go top 3 after going through one of the most terrible media backlashes of all time.
The song put her back on the map and cleaned the slate which I think was its main purpose.

I'm really conflicted on how I feel about the song. It is kind of infectious, but I do agree the concept/hooks are pretty bland. It's the idea guilty pleasure. You hate it or love it depend on the day.

I didn't even think of this, unless she gets some heavy promo she is absolutely going to get buried by everyone else (and these aren't artists coming from a flop era either, they all have success and WW publicity).

The song was an awful choice.

Sure its not as offensively bad/try hard as NMT but its just too bland and slow.

I don't want to bring her into the conversation since intent would be questioned, but Britney experienced a far worst media backlash and "Gimme More"/Blackout did amazing at initial impact.

I don't even think "Your Body" puts her back on the map/clean a slate because it almost seems its non-existent, especially among all this competition this Fall. At this point, it's not setting up Lotus to do much on the charts, so the purpose would seem like a failure.

I think they really just wanted to capitalize on holiday sales for the album. Maybe they should of released the song in July/August then the album in early October? (to avoid Taylor in late October). They could have still promoted the album when The Voice came back and did a performance earlier on in the show.

I hate that they didn't use The Voice. Which kind of comes into timeframe for me. When Maroon 5 used The Voice, it was during the live shows and such. Why didn't they just wait another month so she could do the same? It'll be too late by then, unless they do a new single.

It could really benefit from being a little faster. It clocks in at 4 minutes which isn't really the idea time for Pop radio.
