This post is not off-topic. I said they were not iconic, then the person responded with album sales. I then said (by using an example of a person who has sold MORE but is not iconic) that sales didn't matter.

I dont think you deserved that. You just gave a good example. Which i actually agree with. People here need to learn what certain words mean. Not every successful thing is iconic.

No. The topic was "Is Evanescence's 'Fallen' Album Iconic", It's a simple yes or a no answer. To say whether she iconic or not is very subjective to begin with. What determines whether she is iconic or not? It is quite ridiculous for one to come in and claim she not iconic just because she's not doing as well according to their standards and I think that's why posters have a problem with what he posted. His making it seem as though his/her standards are all that matters and as long as an artist don't do as well as what he perceived them to do, they are not iconic.

Im not fighting somebody elses cause. But your post sums up everything that annoys me about the way that word is used around here. Im tempted to hand out dictionaries.
