I'm assuming GA is Girls Aloud? Correct me if I'm wrong.
What makes the Spice Girls great is their ability to appeal to the entire world. Their division within unity (each band member's nickname), coupled with their sound is what helped them rise to global fame. They gave you pop, they gave R&B, they gave funk, they gave a little bit of everything, which helped create an appeal that drew a wide range of audiences. There was a member girls could related to whether if they were a bad girl (Ginger), athletic (Sporty), or sweet and innocent (Baby).
Prior to or ex post facto, there was no girl group that had the level of fame and popularity of the Spice Girls. As cheesy as many may believe they are, The Spice Girls are one of the UK's premiere acts, not just of their generation, but of all time. What separates the Spice Girls from other girl groups is that their impact and influence is embedded into pop culture. In their 4 short years, they gave us a lasting memory that is still part of our childhood nostalgia. Their legacy and contributions are still seen today. In fact, just on Wheel of Fortune last night, "The Spice Girls" was one of the puzzles during a 90s category.
Other girl groups have been wildly popular and successful, but none have come close to matching the Spice Girls in overall output.
