Gaga defended by Manhattan borough president
Two NYC borough presidents engaged in a tug-of-war over Lady Gaga, with Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer defended pop singer Lady Gaga from barbs cast by Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, who called the singer a ‘****.’
Quote:
The Staten Island borough president thinks she’s a “****,” but the Manhattan borough president calls Lady Gaga a “symbol of individuality and artistic expression.”
Scott Stringer defended the “Born This Way” singer after his outer-borough counterpart lambasted her for smoking marijuana on stage in Amsterdam last week.
“I would call her a ****,” Staten Island’s James Molinaro told a anti-drug program. “This **** is influencing many, many children.’
In a statement issued Tuesday, Stringer didn’t address Gaga’s drug use, but called her a “a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country.”
The mayoral hopeful — who is friends with Gaga’s parents — also pointed out that she hails from his neighborhood.
“No matter which continent Gaga happens to be in today, she remains an Upper West Sider at heart,” Stringer said.
During the concert, Gaga made a big show of hunting for a joint, lit up, took a few puffs and tossed it into the audience.
“For those of you wondering if I’m high right now, I am not,” she told the crowd.
