so the general consensus in the thread questioning whether there is life on other planets is that people believe there is other life out there, perhaps in a distant galaxy millions of lightyears away from us

my question is do you think we'll ever actually find intelligent life? cos obviously the universe is unimaginably massive that even if there is life in some distant galaxy it could take over thousands of year for us to travel to these distant parts of space to discover them

Yes. There's a decent chance life on other planets will find us too. I wouldn't blame them though if they didn't wanna make contact with us given our barbaric history.

yes but not in this galaxy. im sure there's a bunch of earths and humans out there, but we are so far away that neither can nor will never communicate.

Yes because all we have to do is search for the unmistakable signs that sustainable civilization in other worlds exists: forms of massive energy storage and consumption, more specifically Dyson spheres, giant rings of panels that extract energy from a sun. If intelligent life does exist then after enough time it will require the energy output of one or multiple suns to sustain its civilization, and since the universe is so vast one of these civilizations has to have reached that level, especially since Earth is not nearly one of the oldest planets in the universe.

Yes. But we need to develop so much for this to happen. The distance in space is just unimaginably huge. We can barely see into it, let alone travel there.

Not in our lifetimes. the closest star to our sun is 10,000 years of travel away and its planets might not even host life, so yeah.

Not within this lifetime. I remember reading a science website, and they said those of us living right now, will most likely not live to see it.

Yes. The universe is entirely too expansive to not contain other life forms. We just need the technology and time.

Certainly not in my lifetime as theyre too far away.

However, there certainly must be life elsewhere looking at the odds of earth being the only place. But we need to invent much more advanced technology to find it.

When we studied multiverse theories in one of my lectures, I thought of this all the time. And I do think we will one day when space technology is advanced to the point of total safety on all missions.

Don't call me weird but:

I agree with some theories that black holes lead to other dimensions and essentially other universes. I think we, ourselves, Earth, the sun, Mercury - Pluto, etc - are in a black hole. And all black holes near us and in our galaxy lead to other places.

Because when something is sucked into a black hole, it doesn't return. And a hole leads somewhere. I forgot the proper terminology, but the direction of suction in the hole only goes/spirals down, so anything lost in it or discovering what is indeed at the end cannot report back.

I had a dream about a spaceship that went into a black hole and it hit turbulence, like an airplane through a storm, but eventually we came out to see planets much similar to ours, except situated differently. And we landed on one, in a city, but I woke up before anything else happened.

Yeah, but 99.99% of the time all the Earth-like planets found end up not being able for life to form.

I believe what has happened for our solar system, Earth, having the sun, etc. is a possible once in a lifetime situation. The universe is huge, but it also hosts much more dangerous things that we are lucky enough to have formed here and don't have to withstand.
