I bought a $1.2k VAIO 2 years ago that I was really excited about + it broke after 5 months. previous to that, I had bad experiences with Compaq, ASUS, and the Acer Gateways (my worst one prolly. The keyboard just stopped working and ****ed up. I don't remember exactly what it did, but it was unusable),

Acer and Compaq are considered cheaper brands, right? I think Asus is considered one of the better brands.

IDK. The build quality on those computers were really bad though + they were really ugly (except partially for the VAIO). They've become better post-2008.
Lenovo makes the most durable and secure PC laptops on the market. Lenovo also has the best PC keyboard. Lenovo has a breadth of designs, ranging from ugly as sin to very thin/colorful/a little ugly.
once I asked a Lenovo rep if they had any plans to make better looking/colored laptops. he said that they had found that "most people" didn't care what their laptops looked like
Why would you even care about how it looks. It's like saying a Macbook Pro is better than Alienware/Lenovo combined because it looks purrrty.
You guys here are so much into the 'looks' of your gadgets rather than functionality it's appalling.

If you're a student just using twitter, Skype, Microsoft Office + other small tasks, you don't really need functionality. Any computer is good enough for that. You wouldn't wang people coming into your dorm and seeing a big clunky black + gray mess on your table. plus, most consumers just surf the web and check email on their computers. Those specs are often rendered useless later.
