Attention to all Britney stans: All those things happened! They weren't making **** up, and the entire first tribute episode was all about how amazing she is. And it's not like Britney is still acting like a chicken with its head cut off, she is more and more lucid every TV appearance she makes!
And to the dumbass that brought up M.J., A) he's dead, and B) he was acquitted of those child molestation charges.
It's a shame her fans are so bothered by the fact that her meltdown will always be one of her most memorable moments.
I thought there was a sufficient blend of parody and homage. Sure, there were digs taken at Britney's expense, but there was flattery in equal measure. The episode did not, in my opinion, veer into heartless or truly disrespectful territory. The underlying tone was one of reverence for a woman who, despite many personal troubles, has an enjoyed a remarkable resurgence. Viewers won't get behind a puff piece that glosses over delicate issues, but they will be receptive to a honest tale of redemption that explores both good and bad.
Larry's upset because, unlike the last tribute, Britney was not deified. Embrace the unpleasant aspects of her past! They make her so human. They're a huge part of her incredible story.
