While X (real name Earl Simmons) always had a spiritual element in his music he ultimately stayed street. It was this duality that made the “dog for life” so popular. According to an interview DMX did with GlobalGrind.com, he states he “read the whole Bible” and was made a deacon at his old church Morningstar.
