I just opened iTunes to find that all my songs are gone, is there a way to get them back without having to add them all over again? Even if its going from iPod to iTunes

I don't really know, but please tell me you backed them up on disc

I don't back it up onto a disc, its 500 songs that would be too much and I didn't think theyd just dissapear

Who cares? I've lost my **** so many times. The worst is when my external shifts from G to H.

My friend had the same problem! His songs were back once he installed the newer version of iTunes.
When searching for programs that can transfer music from the iPod to the computer, I came up with yamipod.
I guess if the newer version of iTunes does not work, try that? If nothing else, you could just re-import the music folder.
Good thing your files were not deleted.
