Music is more diverse and more innovative than Ray of light..... American Life expands on some ideas on music and was innovative. The problem with that album is the lyrics/songwriting. Confessions was also forward thinking.
Hard Candy wasn't generic either, it was typical Timbo/Neptunes production, but that's not generic, its a solid but not great album.
