lmao im guessing you aren't from the UK or you'd know that this past year there's been a HUGE scandal about the methods members of the press use to obtain news stories. if the press release something like this they're basically asking to get sued.

The Royal Family is being humiliated in these situations. They will find some reason to sue. They will likely even win.

ill just explain what grounds they have to take legal action, cos some people seem to think they're just doing it out of embarrassment when they actually do have firm legal ground to sue them:

• french press aren't actually allowed to publish anything which breaches the privacy of public officials. french law is really strict in this area to begin with
• they can sue for breach of privacy, since they were taken on private property by a photographer with a long lens (allegedly)
• if the identity of the actual photographer is discovered, they can sue him personally for trespassing since the photos were taken on private property

Trespassing? The photographer could have been an entire soccer field away from the property and still have gotten that shot (depending on the lens he used).

Anyway, the lawsuits are still largely motivated by a desire to maintain the prestige of the Royal Family.
