OMG. But what I don't understand.... Why do they hate the US so much? I can't believe that one silly video can be the big reason behind it.
This isn't an isolated incident. They didn't just see this video and think, "Wow, I HATE the US." Anti-American sentiments have been growing in the Middle East for DECADES—the biggest culmination of that anti-American sentiment being the 9/11 attacks. Muslims in the Middle East and North Africa already have it in their heads that America is against them—that America is the "Great Devil". This video is just adding to the reasons why they hate the US, hence the violent protests.
Religion has be hugely beneficial to the advancement of culture and technology over the course of human history. It has also gave people hope to feel like things will go better. Humans need religion.
I remember when South Park showed the image of Mohammed, and the creators got death threats, Comedy Central made them re-edit the show to take out Mohammed and bleep out his name, and Family Guy also blacked out the image of Mohammed in their show too. So Mohammed, I think... is the only figure that is off limits in public imo
