Tragic things happen all the time, if I had to "do something in respect of the lives lost" for every tragic event in the world I would not be able to live my life. All I can do is live every day as honestly as possible trying to do good in the world, which I already do.

Of course she wasn't referencing those things...but I'm saying that nobody has come any distance...in fact the world as a whole has not improved at all because of 9/11. I don't see how America has improved either. People have less rights, there is more racism against people of Arab origin, there is more paranoia and fear...Al Qaeda is just one of a long list of villains the US needs to distract its population and use as an excuse for wars that profit certain sectors.

We certainly have come a long way. Yes, a lot of people died in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we're now out of Iraq and we're on our way out of Afghanistan. That's a big jump from, say, 2004-2007, when it looked like those wars would be endless.

It wasn't this thread it was the Rihanna one about her tweet where she made it about herself by inserting her name where it wasn't needed.

I think the whole experience is heightened for New Yorkers because they didn't just watch it on TV, they lived it. Gaga was one of the many who saw one of the towers collapse first hand and the family couldn't get in touch with her mother. It was an American tragedy, but for those living in NYC it'll have been very personal with everyone having their own stories...so it's no surprise that she (and other New Yorkers) bond together in this "#NewYork4Life" attitude.

Say what you want about Gaga but let's not disrespect her message about 9/11. There are many people who lost loved ones that day and it is not the time to be bringing up other issues because god knows there are far more. Today is about remembering the lives lost and embracing how much closers us New Yorkers and the rest of the country have become.

Think about how the people who lost someone before making a joke or being an asshole.
