Yea its his 1st time writing cuz he had go learn that skill its not innate, his singing is. If he could do it all from the beginning it wouldnt be called "development" n im not one of those that places songwriting on some pedestal in order to shade artists. The songwriters should sing their songs if they can. His 2nd album was part of his winning package for the PTOS show, u know the 2nd show ... He WON. 3rd one is a christmas album. They are always almost covers anyways. He did not fail at delivering. He never delivered poor studio or live performances. Everything else was out of his hands. Even artists traditionally signed have little say in their 1st eras let alone someone whose package had been finalised before he even won the show.

Most indie acts do not measure success by certifications. Your favs' albums wouldnt go plat either if not for the funds pumped into marketing & distribution so dont get smart
