I'd have to say I'd think a rotten apple would be not just something that I dislike, but, something that is just not quality AND contributes nothing unique to her overall catalogue, for instance I don't necessarily care for I Was Here for everyday listening type purposes (I'm not big on AC power ballads) it can be cloying, overwrought; however in certain settings it is beyond perfect. I can see it getting a lot of residual play in future years for things like graduations, sports montages, memorial tributes -- something that her catalogue lacked and she would try to shoehorn Halo as that was the only song of hers that was semi-appropriate for something like that. I Was Here would have been so much more perfect for her Michael tribute, Hope For Haiti etc. Anyway, that said I think her rotten apples are:
Best Thing I Never Had  bland Vanessa Carlilse-esque production, contributes nothing that she didn't already have...just Irreplaceable's ugly, annoying cousin. It was the biggest pothole in 4, IMO.
Check On It - I don't hate it, but, it's just kind of there. Brings nothing to the table, has no real replay value today as that Swizz special production is now super dated...I can bop to it when I'm in a mood, but, there's no quality there and if it was deleted from existence, the only thing it would take away is a count on her number 1 tally/some weeks off her cumulative weeks at #1.
Hip Hop Star - hate the song, has no purpose.
