The OP means in terms of music quality. and no, being asked to perform by a ruler does not mean she sold out. Plus she was not the only one. So stay on topic.

If she wanted to make some more money and get fame she could have easily churned out more albums since her debut but she hasn't because it didn't feel right. And her debut was one of the most successful albums of all time and won 5 Grammy's.

Lupe Fiasco is arguable. He himself never sold out, however his label did. His label made a more pop-oriented album in LASERS, but it was against what Lupe wanted and he made that clear.

I guess the OP could have made it little clearer. But even so, what you're implying is that every pop star is a sell out, not just Beyonce. She's not the only one who performed for said dictator, and even so she and the other unnamed pop stars did it at a time before the Arab Spring, before it became a controversy to perform for these rulers, etc. and anyway, she donated the money afterwards, compensating for what could be considered a minor moral misstep. That happens to everyone, not just pop stars.
