Colin Farrell rejected from Boyzone by Ronan Keating in 1993
Quote:
Irish actor Colin Farrell has climbed the slippery ladder of fame to become one of Hollywood’s most sought-after male actors.
But there is still one knock-back that the Total Recall star hasn’t quite gotten over and that’s being rejected from nineties Irish boyband Boyzone!
The 36-year-old originally auditioned for the group back in 1993 when he was a fresh-faced 17-year-old working as a line dancing instructor, complete with cowboy boots and gingham shirt.
The Horrible Bosses star told Now magazine: “I sang Careless Whisper and they were all drop-jawed at how bad I was, how tone deaf I was.
“I remember a phone call going: ‘It isn’t gonna work out, you’re f***ing terrible!’
“It would’ve been a dream job at the time. I was teaching country-and-western dancing for a living - of course being in a boyband would have been preferable to that!”
But according to Boyzone’s manager Louis Walsh, it was actually Ronan Keating who vetoed Colin joining the group.
The X Factor judge recalls Ronan at the time saying: “Don’t give him the gig. If you do he’s going to cause real problems.”
Despite his boybander good looks, Colin did indeed have his fair share of troubles - he went to rehab for sex and drug addiction after publicly admitting to drug-fuelled benders with prostitutes.
He also fathered two children and filmed a 14-minute explicit sex tape with Playboy model Nicole Narain.
Can you imagine Colin on Top Of The Pops belting out Love Me For A Reason?!
