Born This Way, HIAM, Slave, CBT, IKAG...songs like that WERE risky so you guys can take some major seats.
As for the pop girls, I'd say Frozen or Justify My Love by Madonna, Confide In Me by Kylie Minogue. While BTW would seem "risky" because of the lyrics, it was guaranteed to be a hit based on the hype alone. I'd say Bad Romance was more of a risky choice.
