This doesn't strike me as a rock-listening electorate, and everyone did have only five ballots. How often is Janis Joplin mentioned on this site, AT ALL? The soul and R&B singers have a much bigger following and influenced the styles of the people who this site worships.
Etta, Tina, Nina and Sade are some nice, inspired picks! Good on you, ATRL. I'm glad this list has some merit to it.
What I like about Amy and Adele is that they are both fantastic vocal interpreters. I don't know, nor do I care, whether they are technically proficient. Their music moves me.
I didn't vote for Britney, and she is clearly too high. But how can anyone deny that she has one of the most important and iconic voices of her generation? There's a reason for that, and it should count for something.
I can't believe ****ing Rihanna made the top ten. Disgusting. Almost as disgusting as that shrieker being in it.

I really doubt that Rihanna made it on the list either. If this was really a stan heavy vote, why would Gaga end up 20th? She has more stans than Rihanna, and I doubt the Rihanna fans are as convinced of their fave's vocal prowess.

At least if Rih makes the list now, then it'll show the Monsters are less biased than the Navy. (No flamebait here, the same could be said about Ke$ha, Katy, Nicki etc. ).
I'm praying for Cher to make the top 10.
I'm also pretty angry that Florence didn't make the list.
Unless that's one of the surprises, Ace?

I have my reasons to think that Florence did not make it (and the fact she hasn't shown up is a good indication she won't), but she did surprise once with the first UK New Wave rate...
Rihanna making the top 10 might just be the most ridiculous thing that's happened in a countdown/rate so far. And considering how messy some of the rates have been, that says a lot.
Anyways, the rest of the top 10 seems to be expected, but solid. I'm guessing Beyonce/Mariah/Whitney will be top 3, but I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

No I highly doubt she'll make the list either. She should have definitley been Top 30 though, and certainly considered for top 20. I think it comes from not enough people listening to her music. Spectrum shows her clear vocal talent and it's incredible. I mean, the way the sings 'Say my name' and her holding the note on 'name' so perfectly.
Aretha
Beyonce
Xtina
Mariah
Whitney
Kelly
Bjork Donna
Janis
Mary J
Going with those 3.

Not sure about the 10th person, I can only think of 9.
EDIT again: And Janis I voted her too.
So my prediction:
Whitney
Aretha
Janis
Mariah
Bjork
Cher
Kelly
Beyonce
Christina
Tracy

Oh right, yeah I kind of agree with you. I think she is often overlooked
She got a lot of points from me though, hopefully some others followed suit. It would be criminal for her not to be on the list at all.
10. Janis Joplin
Points Received: 168
It's not an understatement to say that Janis is maybe the most influential vocalist - or, at least, the most influential white one - in our top ten. The original "so wrong it's right" singer, Janis always seemed on the edge of collapse; her burly, whiskey-soaked vocals giving everything they had. That passion has let her legacy last for over forty years, and almost every woman who does anything folk related owes a majority of their career to her. They know it too.
