Within Temptation is way more melodic and theatrical than Evanescence. What Have You Done sounds American mostly because there's an American guy singing on it. But the album version is way cooler than the single version. And the rest of the album sounds like their older material, just a bit heavier, more instruments, just more of everything. And IMO there's only one ballad on it (Forgiven).
Within Temptation is Within Temptation but The Heart of Everything is by far the closest in contact with Evanescence. 1, the album has the religious theme to it just like Fallen. 2, some songs have a religious theme to them (The Cross, Hand of Sorrow and The Truth Beneath the Rose) almost like Tourniquet and Whisper. 3, They have the BMTL imitation WHYD. The only difference between WT and Ev is that WT is metal while Ev is alternative with a hint of hard rock but other than that both are really good bands. And as far as when the bands started I think that they just started at the same time along with LC except that Ev is just a local band.
i withdraw my comment that they´re a european evanescence, it´s not really correct, it was mostly based on the WHYD single, which is very BMTL....also it sounded like a diss towards WT , but i admit that they´re even better than evanescence...(actually most european bands in this subgenre of metal are better than the american alikes).
Within Temptation, the european Evanescence? How? Europe knows well both bands, and I'd say Evanescence is even much more famous here. This is not the same music to me, although I love both. Within Temptation has more talent.
All I know is that with them bringing a Single to the US, they will obviously be seen as a Copy of Evanescence. Regardless of their history.
Plus, they have moved to a way more commercial scene since The Silent Force album...this album is heavily commercially influenced. You can also hear they made her fix her pronunciation a bit --- she struggled in past albums, even though only on occasion.
