Honestly. A new single from Gaga would get lost in the crowd. iTunes server crashed for an entire week and nothing was updated, so no casual buyers would even know that a new Gaga song was even out.

Over the years:

1st 100k: Xmas 05 (Actually, 11 songs hit 100k this week, when there were 0 before.)
New digital record: Xmas 06 (#2 also beat the previous record.)
New digital record: Xmas 07 (#2 also beat the previous record.)
2nd 400k week (after Xmas 07): Xmas 08
Only 2 weeks w/600k (No other weeks even had 500k that year.): Xmas 09 + Right Round debut
Following that, no new song w/500k until: Xmas 10 (#2 also had 500k.)
Since the Xmas effect was split, top 2-week periods in the following year: Xmas 11 + Born this Way debut

I guess we'll see how strong Xmas is this year.

It would be beyond awful

iTunes server crashes every Christmas (and with HUGE releases too) and would mean an January/February release which wouldn't look good for a high profile artist.

There's no point in Gaga releasing before January tbh. Her album aint coming till March (maybe February but I highly doubt that), so what's the point of putting out a single 5-6 months before that? The era is already gonna feel old by the time the album drops- BTW suffered similarly as the era felt over after week 2.

She's repeating the same mistakes. Not that I mind.

I agree. She should just leave 2012 releases at that Kendrick Lamar collaboration and wait till next year.

As long as she's at 637k, any more wouldn't really mean much to me - aside of course that it would be harder for future songs to break her hopefully soon record.

I'm being cautious though and would celebrate just 600k.
