First she needs to do a few features to get her name out there. They can be pop or hip-hop features, but she needs something more than just herself.
She needs to also start doing some radio interviews. The Breakfast Club, Hot 97 etc will be good for her. She also needs to release some songs to urban radio. She may not want to box herself as a hip-hop rapper, but she needs a presence on urban radio to solidify interest in her album wider than just the hipster crowd.

Liquorice is too Dance for Urban, honestly. But Nathan and Jumanji are PERFECT, as is Esta Noche.
I wish Interscope would act on it.
They're doing to her like what they did to Lana, really. Hype her up to the heavens on the Internet, but do nothing when it comes to promoting her to radio.

Azealia is a different story though than Lana. They can't do that if they want a successful US album, especially since she's a rapper.
I don't know if she is really that ambitious on becoming a conventional pop star though. I think she wants credibility, acclaim and album sales over massive radio hits. I do agree that she needs to get her music out there though. She has a good online following. Now she just needs more of the public to become aware of her.
