I want to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS. It's long been out of warranty and I wanna have some fun with it before I get the iPhone 5. Anyone know how I can do it online?
I wouldn't recommend it though. My 3GS is slow as f*ck, if I'd jailbreak it I have to wait longer to open my music than Cher releasing The Greatest Thing
I'm so scared to jailbreak it, I would definetely jail-break for those themees though, they look amazing.
Does it affect battery performance at all? Or the overall performance of the phone?

I don't feel like it has affected the battery performance, but it depends on what you install! If you install a wallpaper that changes every 5 minutes, it will most likely affect the battery. But overall, nope!
And when it comes to the performance of the phone itself, I would say that it can be a little laggy and slow sometimes, but you wouldn't really notice. Though, I have experienced that the Springboard can crash from time to time, but you can just respring and it will be ok in about 10 seconds!

I jailbroke it, I used something called absinthe, it took 2 tries but it worked
