Amazon.com Inc. said
the Hunger Games trilogy has outsold the Harry Potter series, making Suzanne Collins's work the online retailer's best-selling book series of all time, including print and Kindle book sales.
"
Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter's seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time," Amazon Editorial Director Sara Nelson said.
Ms. Nelson said "The Hunger Games" is the
most-borrowed book in the Kindle library.
All of the books in the Hunger Games and Harry Potter series are available for Kindle owners with a Prime membership to borrow for free in the Kindle library.
Amazon has expanded beyond its roots as an Internet book seller, investing aggressively in new shipping centers, data centers, online video content and its own line of gadgets including the Kindle Fire tablet. The effort has depressed profits in recent quarters, while revenue has strengthened.
