Amazon.com Inc. said the Hunger Games trilogy has outsold the Harry Potter series, making Suzanne Collins's work the online retailer's best-selling book series of all time, including print and Kindle book sales.

"Interestingly, this series is only three books versus Harry Potter's seven, and to achieve this result in just four years is a great testament to both the popularity of the work and, we think, the growth in reading digitally during that time," Amazon Editorial Director Sara Nelson said.

Ms. Nelson said "The Hunger Games" is the most-borrowed book in the Kindle library.

All of the books in the Hunger Games and Harry Potter series are available for Kindle owners with a Prime membership to borrow for free in the Kindle library.

Amazon has expanded beyond its roots as an Internet book seller, investing aggressively in new shipping centers, data centers, online video content and its own line of gadgets including the Kindle Fire tablet. The effort has depressed profits in recent quarters, while revenue has strengthened.

Never read the books but I love The Hunger Games movie. One of my favourite movies ever, it's amazing.

It helps that physical book sales on Amazon have risen 1500% since the early Harry Potter books and that e-book sales have overtaken print sales on amazon in the past two years.

I find it kind of overrated.

I read the 2nd book and it wasn't nearly as good as the first one and the third one is so boring

Harry Potter stays much better-selling overall. I'm sure J.K. Rowling and her millions remain unbothered.

Is dragging THG cool now? Nah but really, only the first book was good. The other two felt like they were written just because.

As it should, I owe this series a huge thank you anyway. I got two amazing songs from my fave out of it.
