The old one was ugly, but at least the colors made it recognizable. How am I supposed to know that a blue and white logo is google's when looking at it quick...

I'm not a fan of this "sleek, sterile" look that a lot of companies are opting for in their logos.
The colorful old one had much more life to it, much more appealing.

The blue color makes it look boring, but it's better than the other mess.
Even though you can't do much with such an awful logo.

I don't like either too much. But I also don't really care. It's just a small logo, it's not like an album or magazine cover or something.

I think they're very important. When I have 20 tabs open all I see is the favicons.
Without them I wouldn't know what all the tabs are.

The old favicon was a great 50x50 (?) representation of the iconic Google logo.

No, they could've made it look more like the Google+ icon so you still get the color scheme.
