How can Lights be #1 on Radio Songs? Billboard is doing THE most to screw over Wide Awake.

Billboard uses Nielsen BDS and not Mediabase. When airplay numbers are close together on the Mediabase chart (like Lights and WA are), it's usually not easy to tell which one is actually higher on Nielsen (since we don't have access to those).

In fact,

--Lights: The cut ascends 4-1 on Radio Songs (121 million, up 6%)
--Wide Awake: No. 2 on Radio Songs (117 million, down less than 1%)

So, Ellie was ahead by only 4 million points on Nielsen.

Yeah but, wasn't WA ahead with around 5-10M by the end of last tracking week according to Mediabase? I assume Nielsen BDS and Mediabase data are at least somewhat similar so that's why I'm surprised Lights jumps from 4 to 1 suddenly.

Yes, WA was ahead by about 5-10M points on Mediabase last week, but Katy had <1M updates (and a few negative ones), while Ellie always had positive updates and even a few >1M ones). It's 164M for WA and 162 for Lights as of today.

The top 4 songs were very close in airplay points around this time last week, that's why Ellie "jumped" to #1 so quickly it seems.

ever since Mediabase inflated their audiences back in March, their numbers have been a complete mess Nielsen numbers are usually 75% (+/- for error) of Mediabase numbers.
