Unfortunately, I can only get streaming numbers when Billboard posts them in their weekly article. The only place I have seen that publishes the Top streaming songs is:

...but sadly they give no numbers.

Any numbers I use in these formulas are from the Billboard article that gives the articles and it usually shows how close a song is from another (which is helpful since, at times, the Top 2 songs are one position away but over 20+ points away from each other).

I can honestly say I didn't think On-Demand songs would make much of a difference but I was sadly mistaken!

Wait where do you guys get all the streaming and digital and airplay data?

Each week, Billboard posts the numbers for each in an article of songs usually in the Top 10... sometimes they will do songs that increased exponentially just outside of the Hot 100.

They don't use percentages or flat out points. They have a system that weights the points by a multiplier larger than >=1, and the formula is secret. People have attempted to figure out the formula in passing, and have a few that work out with 90+% success. At any rate, the information in this thread is very misleading and noticeably wrong for the only chart in recent memory that I paid a lot of attention to.

The way they find points is correct. And whenever something is "weighed", it IS percentages. 90% is equivalent to .90

As I have said before, the formula I have been using for quite some time now has worked every week. I wasn't using the formula when "Boyfriend" debuted at #2 (because I didn't have it at that time) but that's the ONLY week it did not work.

Also, Billboard has stopped posting Streaming numbers and overall Radio AI now that the formula is out.

Streaming is more weighted than what you have used.

The best instance for understanding the effect of streaming is this:

On the chart dated April 21, What Makes You Beautiful ranked higher than Boyfriend.


What Makes You Beautiful:

Sales: 294k
Airplay: 42M
Streaming: 611k

Boyfriend:

Sales: 295k
Airplay: 54M
Streaming: 286k

So 325k difference in streaming was able to counter 12M difference in Airplay plus 1k difference in sales.

Now the difference in sales and airplay by your methodology equals 1*0.35 + 12*0.55 = 6.95 points, but streaming difference is only 3.25.

So streaming has at least twice the weightage you are giving it.

Something more accurate will be

0.30 * Sales,
0.45 * Airplay,
0.25 * streaming.

Get back to me if there is a scenario where this formula fails.

The 55% Airplay, 35% Sales and 10% streaming is a bad formula.

They should decrease the importance of Airplay and increase the significance of Sales. Or else, the Hot 100 will be very biased towards the songs that Radio likes and spins regularly.

Billboard stated sales weighs more now than airplay, while on-demand streaming doubles the passive (which was 5% before). The 55% airplay, 40% sales, %5 streaming is old (August 2007-up until they announced on-demand).

Anyone can play around with the numbers to make a formula work. This is wrong.

That's a lie. All these songs with high radio play and low digital sales are still way up there on the BB Hot 100 so clearly airplay is still the heaviest factor - which is dumb.

Lights has been #10-12 on iTunes the past week or so and it's #2 on Billboard

It's not. If you'd see and analyze the charts, songs like "WHYB" or "Scream" are still rightfully high, considering their airplay versus competing songs below them are great in length. Likewise, digital sales right now are not that big either. We don't know the actual weight anymore, but clearly despite sales being greater now, airplay is not that far behind.

People are talking like airplay is supposed to just have dropped to 5%. If these lower selling songs (which are really just 68,000 versus 100,000 aka not that big of a difference) have 120m in a.i. over a song with 30m a.i., they clearly have the advantage no matter what.

Sales weigh more than Airplay but that doesn't necessarily mean the multiplier we are referring to here are will be higher for sales as well.

For example, suppose a song has 200k sales, 100M Airplay and 800k streaming (a typical scenario for a #1 song).

The points then would be:

Sales: 200 * 0.3 = 60
Airplay: 100 * 0.45 = 45
Streaming: 80 * 0.25 = 20

So sales still weigh more than airplay and airplay more than streaming.

yep...WHYB is still top 10 while being out the top 30 of sales and not even in the top 10 of streaming
