Taylor Swift Reveals New Album, ‘Red,’ Drops New Single, ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’: ABC Exclusive
Taylor Swift has written the next chapter of her “Love Story,” and she means business.
The six-time Grammy winner debuted the name and cover of her brand-new album, “Red,” which will be out on Oct. 22, and premiered the album’s first single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” during a live Webcast today in Nashville, taking fan questions in real time afterwards. Aug. 13 was an apt choice for the announcement date because 13 is the Swift’s lucky number and over 72,500 viewers tuned in.
Swift said she decided to use the title “Red” because “it was really simple” and epitomized the different emotions she experienced in the crazy, “semi-toxic” relationships she’s had in the past two years, and “there’s nothing beige about that.” The singer also revealed that she wrote “30 to 35″ songs for the album and but whiddled it down to 16 tracks, which includes a duet with recording artist Ed Sheeran.
“I am so excited for you to hear the new direction of things,” Swift said, adding that “really disfunctional” and “not good” relationships can provide “a lot of inspiration.”
Her new song, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” which is about ending a bad relationship, is out today on iTunes and GooglePlay. While at a shoot for Glamour magazine, the 22-year-old singer told “Nightline” anchor Cynthia McFadden exclusively that the song was about something that actually happened to her.
“Writing ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’ was one of the most hilarious experiences I have ever had in the studio because it just happened so naturally,” Swift told McFadden.
Swift said the song was born while she was in the studio with songwriters Max Martin and Johan Shellback and a friend of her ex’s — she declined to name names — walked in.
“He starts talking about how he’s heard we were getting back together and that was not the case,” Swift said. ”When he leaves, Max and Johan are like, ‘so what’s the story behind that?’ And so I start telling them the story of break up, get back together, break up, get back together, just, ugh, the worst.”
“Max says, ‘this is what we’re writing. We’re writing this song,’ and I picked up the guitar and just started singing, ‘we are never–’” she continued. “It just happened so fast. It was so much fun.”
Swift, who is one of the most successful country-pop crossover artists ever and has over 17 million Twitter followers, has made a career out of turning feelings of heartache and longing into smash hit singles, including ”Love Story,” ”Sparks Fly” and ”You Belong With Me.”
Red will be the singer’s fourth studio album. Swift’s previous 2010 album, “Speak Now,” won her two Grammys and sold over one million copies in its first week.
The rest of McFadden’s interview with Taylor Swift will come later this fall in a Glamour profile as well as on “Good Morning America” and “Nightline.” Tune into “Nightline” TONIGHT at 11:35 p.m. ET to get an exclusive sneak peek.

Well, if we're gonna have a radio friendly pop era, we might as well go all out...
I want 6 consecutive #1s on the Hot 100 and diamond for Red. Make stuff happen, Scotty boy.

Taylor Swift Announces New Album Red In Fan Web Chat
Singer debuted new single 'We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together,' off the album dropping October 22.
Being the Internet savvy, social media guru that she is, Taylor Swift took to the Interwebs Monday (August 13) to announce her next album and its release date via a live YouTube chat with a gathering of her biggest fans in Nashville. Swift didn't hesitate in getting right to the heart of the matter and kicked off the nearly half-hour chat by announcing her album title, Red, and its release date, October 22.
So why the Red title?
"When I was coming up with the name for this album it seemed crazy because it was really simple," Swift said. "I wrote a song called 'Red' and thinking about what that song means to me and all the different emotions on this album they're all pretty much about the tumultuous, crazy, insane, intense, semi-toxic relationships I've experienced in the last two years and all those emotions fanning from intense love, intense frustration, intense jealousy, confusion, all of that in my mind, all those emotions are red. There's nothing in between, there's nothing beige about those feelings and so I called my record that."
Swift also revealed that there will be 16 songs on Red, not including bonus tracks, and that per usual, her great inspiration for her songwriting is love.
"I tend to skew in the direction of writing songs about love-related things, relationship- and feeling-related things, that's where I naturally go," Swift said when a fan asked about her inspiration for Red. "I ended up being inspired by a lot of zero-to-100 then it hits a wall and explodes- type relationships which are so fun to write about, really dysfunctional and not good generally but when you write about them it gives you a lot of inspiration.
"There are things that I went through personally and then there are stories I witnessed going on around me," she continued. "When I'm writing an album, my world becomes a big storyboard and has the potential to become a character and all my family and friends around me know that. The last two years have been really inspirational and that's why there are so many songs on the album."
Before ending the chat with a debut listen of her next single, "We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together," Swift teased that she and her team are hard at work planning her next world tour and that fans should look forward to hearing album tracks co-written by a bunch of Swift's favorite artists, including Max Martin and Ed Sheeran, the latter of which was written about/whilst sitting on a trampoline.

I am going to be so stressed out until the album drops. The single isn't going to get good reviews imo.

Yep.
But 16 songs.
I think there will be 9 bonus tracks, which will equal to the 25 songs rumour that was going around.
CFC, Disco and Taylor Swift(the irony).

So far the reviews have been fine . I will be anxious about the rest of the album though and how it will go over. That is where I feel things will get brutal.

If the rest of the songs are comparable to Speak Now, then why would she ever ever release this as the lead? I understand she wants a massive smash, but quality>>>>quantity.
I am obsessed with the song though
