News: DEADLY shooting near A&M University

According to the College Station Police Department, the gunman was shot and taken into custody. At a press briefing, a police spokeswoman said that there is "no longer a danger to the public."

According to KBTX-TV, the suspected gunman is also dead. According to Reuters, a male civilian died in the shooting, police said, though it is unclear whether that is the gunman.

The shooting began when officer "attempted to serve an eviction notice," according to WFAA-TV. Brian Bachmann, a 41-year-old sheriff's deputy, was fatally wounded in the shooting that occurred shortly after noon about a block away from the school's campus.

The wounded officers are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The female civilian underwent surgery Monday; her condition was not released.

"It appears that the shooter [was] shooting from a house with automatic weapons," KBTX-TV said.

Texas A&M issued an alert on its website just before 12:30 p.m. local time on Monday warning of an active shooter near Kyle Field, the campus football stadium, according to the Associated Press.

The shooting occurred near Highlands and Fidelity Streets in College Station, just south of the George Bush Drive and east of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum.

It was NEAR Texas A&M. It was eviction drama; it has nothing to do with the university other than they warned students the situation was occurring a block away.

Whoever wrote that headline is sensationalizing the event to tie into The Dark Knight Rises & Wisconsin shootings and the gun control debate of 2012 for election year.

Prayers for those injured and RIP to the two who died.

Um not at all. Gun control is a non-starter issue in politics, meaning it is impossible for any progress to be made in this climate. Democrats haven't even introduced expanded gun control legislation in years, and the gun control lobby is essentially gone except for Carolyn McCarthy.

Nothing can be done about it. A majority of guns are bought in the black market, meaning tighter legislation will only make things worse, banning guns will bring major controversy because its in the Bill of Rights. And if the government takes that away they can take away our other basic rights. So its a complex issue that no one 200yrs ago saw coming.

Wrong. Only 10-15% of guns used in crimes are obtained illegally. The Gabby Giffords shooter, the Virginia Tech shooter, the Aurora shooter and the WIsconsin Sikh temple shooter all legally purchased assault weapons that had been previously banned but Republicans allowed to expire.
