Madonna's string of hits are credited for mainstreaming dance pop and bringing it to prominence in the 80's. Holiday alone did not do that. Holiday, Lucky Star, Borderline, Like A Virgin, Material Girl, Angel, Into The Groove, Dress You Up all did. My main point here is that the prominence of Madonna's debut is mostly distilled onto Like A Virgin in terms of those releases being more memorable. People largely do not remember Holiday as being a signature hit for her, regardless of if it was her first top 20 hit or not people remember her other songs first and accredit those songs as being the driving forces behind the dance-pop movement of the 80's. Not Holiday, which is generally overlooked (to say the least) by most people in terms of musical importance.
Why are people not getting this?
