President Obama addresses the criticism that he hasn't done enough for the black community in an interview with Black Enterprise magazine:
How do you respond to criticism that your administration hasn’t done enough to support black businesses?
My general view has been consistent throughout, which is that I want all businesses to succeed. I want all Americans to have opportunity. I’m not the president of black America. I’m the president of the United States of America, but the programs that we have put in place have been directed at those folks who are least able to get financing through conventional means, who have been in the past locked out of opportunities that were available to everybody. So, I’ll put my track record up against anybody in terms of us putting in place broad-based programs that ultimately had a huge benefit for African American businesses.
I agree with him but he shouldn't have said that because trust me people are gonna take it the wrong way as usual.

If he said he was the President of a "Black America" the Tea Party and right wing nutjobs would be all over his ass. As a President, there's only so much you can do to make everyone happy. I thought his answer was a step in that direction, but there's no doubt it rile some people.
He's completely right. If you're only going to quote "I'm not the president of black America" completely out of context, as I'm sure Fox News will do, then it certainly sounds hurtful or potentially warranting backlash. However, his whole point is that he is president of the entire country and he wants all businesses to succeed--not necessarily just black businesses. He's done a great deal of work to help underprivileged people and businesses succeed, and in many cases that includes black Americans and black businesses, but of course there are less privileged people of all races. Any backlash from this statement would be ludicrous and unjust.
They are already dragging him on twitter and other media outlets for this statement. They know that what he said is true but its hard for them to admit that.
