The album is her most well received after the
Oops! album, nearly scoring a 70. It's her sixth album to top the Billboard chart, tying with Mariah and Janet. It's sales are dismal, but just as you guys can excuse Rihanna from not having a fanbase and her tours/albums being dismal all the time - she is an older artist and in a time where hardly anyone is selling, she isn't going to be amongst the top.
So that's where the singles success come in, where she broke and made several records for the charts, but more importantly for herself.
Hold It Against Me
- After its first day of release in the United States, "Hold It Against Me" set the record for most radio plays during a first day.
- The song broke Mediabase's record for the largest spin-increase in a single week.
- On the issue dated January 29, 2011, "Hold It Against Me" debuted at number one on the Hot 100, making Spears the second artist in history to debut multiple songs at the top of the chart, behind only Mariah Carey. The single is also the eighteenth song to debut at number one, and Spears' fourth chart-topper.
- "Hold It Against Me" made Spears the third female artist, behind Madonna and Janet Jackson, to top the Hot 100 in three decades, as well as the seventh artist overall.
- "Hold It Against Me" also debuted atop the Hot Digital Songs chart, with 411,000 copies sold. The sum marked the most downloads in a first week by a female artist.
- "Hold It Against Me" debuted at number sixteen on Billboard's Pop Songs chart with 4,071 plays, the highest detections total by a new entry in the chart's history. It was also tied with Madonna's "Frozen" (1998) for the second highest debut, behind Carey's "Dreamlover" (1993).
- The following week, it climbed to number ten, becoming the seventh song in history to reach the top ten in only two weeks, as well as the first to do so in six years.
- On Radio Songs, "Hold It Against Me" debuted at number twenty-three with 45 million first-week audience impressions, which according to Nielsen BDS, is the highest debut on the chart since Carey's "Touch My Body" (2008).
Till The World Ends
- "Till the World Ends" also peaked at number three on the Hot 100, becoming Spears's eighth top-five hit and her third of 2011 after "Hold It Against Me" and the "S&M" remix with Rihanna.
- In May 2011, the song peaked at number 4 on the airplay chart, her highest-charting song on the radio in her entire career.
- "Till the World Ends" became Spears's seventh number-one dance song when it topped the chart in May 2011.
- As of June 2012, "Till the World Ends" has sold 2,638,000 paid digital downloads in the United States according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is her third best-selling digital single in the country.
I Wanna Go
- "I Wanna Go" became Spears's 21 top-forty single, the third-highest female total since her first week on the chart on November 21, 1998.
- On the chart issue of August 4, 2011, the song climbed from number 11 to number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, making Femme Fatale the first album by Spears to achieve three top ten singles.
- It became her fifth top ten single in a row, and her twelfth top ten hit overall, the third-highest female total since her first week on the chart.
- The song peaked atop the Pop Songs chart on September 24, 2011, becoming Spears' sixth single to top the chart, and setting a record for the longest span of number-one singles by an artist (12 years, seven months and four days).
If anything
Rated R did nothing for Rihanna's career. It was a placeholder to maximize on the assault against her, before they could return her to doing pop music. The only thing it has for it is being her most critically accepted, but as we've seen the reception of her music has slipped since.
