What Olympic sport (or event specifically) generates the most excitement? This topic is a spin-off in the main Olympic thread on what is the most popular Olympics event. So which events get you the most excited every four years?
All the sports listed or via the official London 2012 Olympics page.
My picks are gymnastics - artistic (the women's team title and women's all around), 100 meter dash (men and women), and swimming (no event particular).
Over here yeah it'd be artistic gymnastics, swimming and the racing portion of athletics. Different countries are probably into different things but I don't have their perspective.
In the Netherlands it's the events we do well in. Usually swimming, hockey, judo and equestrian. And all the athletics and artistic gymnastics events are popular.
Gymnastics and Swimming by far. Nielsen reported that 4.6 billion people watched at least one of Michael Phelps' races in Beijing, with over 100M Americans tuning in for the primetime airing of the 4x100 freestyle relay alone.
But here it's the Athletics and Swimming. The Athletics is mostly the running that builds a hype. The biggest event of the Olympics is undoubtedly the Men's 100m (Which was done last night ).
