After recently talking with us about his less-than-stellar post-Voice album, Come Through For You, it seems that Season 1 winner Javier Colon will be leaving Universal Republic Records.
According to Buddy TV, the singer has been with Universal Republic since winning the show in June 2011 (the recording contract was a part of his winnings). Today, Javier released a statement about the transition.
“After much thought and deliberation, I have parted ways with my record label, Universal Republic Records,” he said. “While this may appear to be bad news on the surface, I truly believe that this is exactly the move I need to make in order to continue forward progression in my career.”
Javier went on to describe his relationship with the label as an “unforeseen bad marriage” and even appears to have some lingering qualms with how his album was handled.
“When you pour your heart and soul into a new album that you think is really great, and your label who is supposed to support, market and promote your music does neither, it's really hard not to be upset,” he said.
“The truth is, we are all better off going our separate ways. I believe what's meant to be is meant to be and that's just how it goes. I've always believed that and still do.”
The singer is set to tour with Gavin DeGraw and Colbie Caillat this summer and has plans to play future shows with former coach Adam Levine’s band Maroon 5.
Meanwhile his mentor is sitting pretty at the top of the charts with a single launched on The Voice. What a shame.The show needs to focus more on the contestants AND a change to change record labels.

I wonder if it has something to do with who his coach was. Cause Dia may not be uber successful, but she has a strong fanbase, a record out, and is touring with Scars on 45. And from what I've heard, it seems like Blake Shelton was very helpful and instrumental in making a lot of this happen.
