I can see how people would think so, but based on what shes revealed about the album thematically it isn't pretentious at all and is just a play on words.
It's because calling your album Art Pop is kind of saying other Pop music isn't art. I'm not saying she's implying that, but the name does have a high sense of superiority....
And yes, artist has art in it, but that's beside the point.
I don't understand how people here think "ArtPop" is pretentious. I mean, her debut album was more pretentious - "The Fame". She wasn't even FAMOUS and had that album title.
Let's wait to see if the material matches the artistic value of the title. When you name your album like this, you make us expect you're cooking some experimental, avant-garde sound, not dancepop tunes.
