It's a Dr. Luke ballad. It was created for the radio. Not all ballads are risky.

For example, Wide Awake is not a risky ballad, but 1+1 by Beyonce is. However, I will give you the fact that it was released in summer. That actually is a bit risky.

I agree - but success isn't always desired in "being #1 on the Billboard Hot 100".
Just because music is good doesn't mean it has to be good enough to apply to everyone in the world.
I can get into music that I enjoy more than other people.
Why must the ultimate end goal be to "chart the best" and "sell the most"? That's not what I stan for. Sorry y'all.
Not to mention, it's not always chart-toppers that become the most nostalgic and memorable songs in my life.

Every artists wants mainstream success/chart success. It may not be their main goal, but that's their income. I doubt they would spend a lot of money on recording their music to not get anything in return.

Very few people expected WA to do well on the charts due to the nature of the song. It's not about partying, dancing, clubs etc. Releasing it in the middle of the summer was a risk.

Not every song on Earth is fit for the radio. There are other purposes for music other than charting.

Well yea you have to consider different perspectives. I'm sure Ellie Goulding is thrilled Lights is in the top 10. Katy's success is more inflated.

You're getting want and strive confused. While not every artist 'strives' or works hard for chart success, they still want chart success. I doubt they would turn away from their song going #1 on the charts if they had the choice. And in your sig you have Madonna and Ke$ha who (in recent times) have made music clearly for chart purposes. Why are you going off on Katy as if trying to achieve chart success is some devilish act?

I agree what you're saying, some artists write songs just for themselves, not for ppl.
