EDIT: On a side note, I never listened anything by this girl, I might try one day, just because of this great statement. I like how pop artists think that they can throw around the goth label as if it means just another trivial thing. You know, real gothic people live in a gothic life-style and the only bands that are considered gothic are the ones that are part of their subculture. And this means that no pop act can ever be goth.

I completely understand why she gets annoyed by this... but when she's stated in other interviews that she feels free now to switch between genres and likes the idea of redefining her sound for each album, I'm assuming this means she'll have a harder time getting to a point of being "classed as herself" than most other artists... maybe?

LMAO that's the first thing that came to my mind. The nerve of her crying about comparisons only to compare herself to someone else.

I hate it when people say this. She didn't threw anything away from her TFJ roots. The style/production of Electra Heart may be the same as what the other artists are putting out right now (which is the whole point of the album - selling out to be more commercial) but you can still see how Marina incorporates her flexible writing skills in this album.

I think saying she originally was going for a goth Britney Spears sound is a bit different to being classified as another Katy Perry/Lana/Gaga. I can see your point though.

Nope, she edits HUGE on her unique singing style, production and point of view. At the same time, keep making reference from what she think she is despise of , but truth is she's ambivalent and inconsistent this time around. And look at the result, selling less is what all the "commercial" get.

I think when you're new and different people try to compare/describe you with something everyones familiar with. I recall it happened to gaga all the time where she was constantly compared to other artists when people were describing her.
