And last year it sold like 50k and it hasn't sold a third of what BTW has. She's also only had one hit there.
It doesn't matter, you don't sell more than any other western act and Not be large there. Selling more than 100k is good for most pop girls and Adele has done more than that in the first half of this year alone.
She's had one top ten hit in Japan that also hit #1 on the South Korean international-only chart, where she has one other #1 that did not chart elsewhere in Asia. Fact is fact, her status in Asia is not a matter of opinion.
Laying to rest ridiculous claims from her naysayers that she’s only popular in America, country-pop superstar Taylor Swift is currently relishing in success after wrapping up the Asian leg of her Speak Now world tour.
The tour saw Taylor playing sold-out shows in stadiums and arenas all across the continent, which has helped to drive the sales of her latest album Speak Now. So far, it’s already hit Platinum in South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia and the Philippines, and gone Gold in Japan.
“Some of them were really surprising to me. I wasn’t aware of every single certification we have in Asia. It really blew my mind,” Swift told The Associated Press. “I love country music, and I love the fact that it’s being accepted all over the world. That is so exciting for me.”
“I have heroes who have taken country music internationally. You have Garth Brooks and Shania Twain. They really did a lot for country music because they brought an awareness to it. The fact that I have the opportunity to do that too and go to other countries where I’ve never been before and play music — it’s what I’ve always dreamed of doing.”
“The international success has been the most beautiful and pleasant surprise. Being welcomed by countries that speak a different language from the language I speak is an honor,” Swift said. It really touches me every time I look down and I see all the fans singing the words to my songs, having written the lyrics, knowing that they connect in countries where English really isn’t spoken by everyone. It means the world to me.”
Nobody thinks Asia/Japan = global, but logic tells us that global includes Asia and Japan. If someone were irrelevant or unpopular anywhere else they still would not be global.
