Do you listen to music for entertainment or critical acclaim
Simple Question. I've noticed a lot recently that it seems like people care more about critical acclaim and general public's perception of music instead of listening for your entertainment.
So who listens to music for entertainment and who listens based off of critical acclaim?
I listen to music for entertainment, but it can help sometimes if it's deep enough to make me think or challenging enough to force me to pay attention.
No one listens to music based off of critical acclaim; that just serves as either ammo for stan wars or an entry point for discovering new music.
What kind of question? Music IS entertainment. So of course people listen to it for entertainment. Critics are there to tell you what they think is worth listening to.
I listen to whatever sounds good to me. I don't need anybody's approval, although lately I tend to lean towards music that is almost universally panned, rather than critically acclaimed. Internet users talking trash about certain bands and artists makes me like them even more.
Some people listen to albums with acclaim to make them fill better about themselves, and to be more snobby towards others. They usually steer clear of anything mainstream because, mainstream music is "crap". So they feel the need to put others down by saying how crappy that music is, and how awesome their critically acclaimed music is. Which they call "good music".

I listen for entertainment purposes. I love listening to music, especially when I can relate to it on a personal level. I love when I can connect with it. I could care less about critical acclaim really....I just love music in general.
I like listening to music for entertainment, whether it's a generic mindless club song that I can just enjoy or if it's a heart wrenching ballad that makes me question what's going on in my life.
I don't turn to critics for approval of what I should listen to.
And at the results. Of course everyone listens to music for personal entertainment. Just because some listeners may care about critical acclaim and the general public's perception (two VERY different things to consider) doesn't mean they necessarily listen to music for that reason.
Sometimes I listen to music for pure entertainment, like grabbing a sweet snack or watching an episode of my favourite show I've already seen. And sometimes I like to engage and immerse myself in some music (if the music has enough to dive into and isn't say, a shallow puddle), like reading a book or watching a movie. It really depends on my mood.
