That's an absolute terrible excuse to use for someone who cheats. However, seeing as you've never been in a relationship, it's understandable why you'd think that way.
If you're not getting something from your relationship, the
mature approach is to talk to your partner. There is absolutely no reason for you to go outside your relationship to seek what you're lacking.
People make a big deal out of cheating because it can destroy families, just like the current situation. There is no barring on Rupert's wife or Rob to make amends with Rupert or Kristen. If you take them back, who says they won't cheat again? How do you even form that trust after its been broken? You don't want to be with someone who is willing to betray your trust if things get "tough".
