It seems to be a pattern with Gwen/No Doubt to have underperforming lead singles with huge 2nd/3rd singles. Just A Girl, Hey Baby, What You Waiting For and Wind It Up all severely underperformed. Meanwhile Don't Speak, Underneath It All, Hollaback Girl, and The Sweet Escape all smashed after they followed up floppy singles.

Sounds like a kiss of death to me. How embarrassing if it flops now. It's bad luck to over hype your work as something that's going to be huge and epic. (i.e., "Born This Way will be the album of the decade" ) No shade, just truth. I hate when artists do that

Every artist does it. Katy Perry tooted her own horn for quite some time hyping up TD and the hype didn't do much for her album sales but she earned herself 9 top 10 singles so the hype was justified. Rihanna's team was calling LOUD this generations Thriller(lol) and while it's nowhere close to the same league it was still a succesful album era. Or Beyonce and Nicki who claimed they invented new genres. Gaga hyped her album to death and again while it failed to meet unrealistic expectations it still was a pretty succesful album era for her. I don't see the problem in Gwen saying there's a song on her album which she really likes and thinks will be big. She's not claiming that it will be better than Michael Jackson and Madonna's songs or that it will save humanity. She just thinks it will be a big song and she's really excited about it.
