Should they be banned completely? Obviously not. I doubt anybody feels that way. But they need to have stricter rules when it comes to who can purchase and own a gun. They need to run thorough background checks and psychiatric evaluations. Most mass shootings involve legally purchased guns.

Canada and Denmark are different than the United States in the fact that guns are now so deeply rooted in our culture and lifestyle that taking them away would be asinine. If we, as a country, had outlawed them from the beginning, then we would see our gun deaths extremely low like Canada's and Denmark's.

As it stands in the context of the United States, however, outlawing them over 230 years into our history in a time where so much of the population owns guns already would do nothing but deprive innocent people of protection and give more power to criminals. This, I think, is a valid, strong case against outlawing guns entirely.

Which is why I favor simply making them harder to get via government regulation.

There has to be Gun Control in america, it's unbelievable that one person can buy 6,000 rounds online, 1 assault rifle, a shotgun and 4 handguns... the laws need to change with the times.

We are no longer in the 1800's where the british could come and try to conquer America again, we are in 2012, we don't need guns, what we need is peace and laws.

People say that ''guns don't don't kill people, people kill people'', **** that, that's the argument of gun makers, we need laws that make it difficult for people to get guns, do more than just a background check and wait 4 days for him to get his gun; We need to educate people about the dangers of guns, and the benefits of gun control.

It's a complicated issue I don't know if I want to get into right now.

I think that IF someone committed a horrible crime such as the one that occurred today, they were obviously intent on committing it, and would find a way to obtain a weapon no matter the legality of owning one. So obviously guns shouldn't be completely illegal, or else there would be no way for innocent people to defend themselves. But simply purchasing a gun definitely shouldn't be as easy as it currently is, so something has to be done about that in an effort to prevent tragedies like this from easily happening.

I don't know... I guess gun control should be a lot stricter, but never fully enough to get in the way of the general public's safety or right to defend themselves. It's tough ... but it really doesn't affect me, since as of right now, I have no need or desire to own a gun.
