It's now the time for..Questions Of The Decade!
From the 20s to the 90s ,there have been a certain sound for each era . Hell yeah , even the early 80s ,for exapmle, sounded different then late80s.
I've done a similiar thread in the past ,but now it's getting serious and we are three years away from the end of the DECADE. It's time to answer these questions.
1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
Feel free to discuss any point of these questions and give your OPINION.

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
Urban influenced pop music and emo bands
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
Most of the current music that is good enough isn't even popular.. so I'm gonna have to say no
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
Utada Hikaru - Passion
Mariah Carey - We Belong Together
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
Yes, pop music has never dumbed down this much
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
When the music industry has collapsed, there won't be much sampling anymore

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
Very synth-influenced, in rock, pop, and hip hop. Very electronic.
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
Honestly, no. Music in the past required some amount of talent involved, where people were trying new things, both lyrically and musically. Today, most people are using the same producers and are using the same sound, with constant recycled lyrics.
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
Ayumi Hamasaki - kiss o' kill
Gwen Stefani - Cool
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score
Utada Hikaru - Be My Last/Passion
Within Temptation - The Howling
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
Them, and the artists who use the same producers as everyone else just because other people had a hit with it.
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
Nobody's going to sample us at the rate we're going. People who do attempt to sample us will really be sampling the past.

1
hiphop/dance/pop/emo rock anything catchy with a good beat.
2
no not at all, every other song copies off something else unoriginal. the good stuff hardly get airplay...
3
-edit this part later-
4
no, their label (i think) pressures them i make stuff they think will sell. but some artists sell out completely, so i guess its 50/50

1.
as someone said above, no matter what genre, every song sounds very electronic. from fall out boy's obviously electronicly enhanced voices, to madonna's electronically enhanced disco revival/new age/acoustic/pop beats.
2.
our music will be remembered in 100 years, as an example of what happens when the music industry loses it's imagination and creativity.
3.
each and everyone of these songs were hugly succesful commericially, and memorable
Dani California - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Crazy - Gnarles Barkley
Music - Madonna
E-Pro - Beck
A Moment Like This - Kelly Clarkson
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz
Best of You - Foo Fighters
Holla Back Girl - Gwen Stefani
Your Beautiful - James Blunt
Gold Digger - Kanye West
Hey Ya - Outkast
Beverly Hills - Weezer
4.
blame the industry that allows this, and even supports it.
5.
the electronic phase will continue, and im sure there will be covers of songs from this decade. musically, it won't be a stand out decade. politically, it will be the biggest decade.

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
Well, it would be something urban, emo and influcened alot by pop/dance/electronica/hip hop that anything has to be catchy to be wellknown.
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
Obviously, yes.

Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
WBT - Mariah Carey
Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani
Buttons - PCD
Beautiful - Xtina
SexyBack - JT
Bad Day - DP
Toxic - Britney
Yeah - usher, etc...
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
-(POP)urban/r&b influenced, mixed throwbacks and mashups with distintive sounds from earlier eras (70´s-90´s) in a modern way.
(ROCK) melodic punk(american style), Emo, more openminded mix with other musical elements/eras than some years ago)
generally speaking, the 00´s is the most mixed-up , not-tied-to-a-certain-sound era ever i think, and with the growth of internet´s liberating power, it´s more creative and anarchistic than ever, mostly in a good way! the 00´s is the decade when big labels/incs. began to lose their power, and the creativity was more apparent than in a long time.
Though i think that there are no more new genres to create, the last new ones was created late 80´s/early 90´s (grunge, trip-hop etc.)....but more crossovers with a kinda new sound are to be expected!
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
-yes, but some genres/artists do very much the same thing all the time, they might "miss the train to the future", though almost every "urban song" has a featuring other artist... i feel that might do that the main artist of the song will be forgotten more quickly, ....many has to watch out!
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
-Outcast - hey ya!
-green day - boulevard of broken dreams
-christina aguilera - beautiful
-beyonce - crazy in love
-evanescence - my immortal
-gwen stefani - hollaback girl
-mastodon - march of the fire ants
-neurosis - stones from the sky
-nelly furtado - promiscuos
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
-depends on the quality of the music, but,as we see already thanx to myspace and such, the big traditional labels, that want their artist to use a safe producer, safe sound etc., are down on their knees...they have to be inventive.....don´t blame timba, he has refreshened todays mainstream pop!
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
-no idea...

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
* There is no one clear cut sound of this era. Obviously "pop" music dominates the airwaves, but pop can be pretty much anything, from urban (50 Cent) to emo (Panic! or FOB) to R&B (JT or Usher) to regular pop (Fergie, Britney, Kelly Clarkson).
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
* No. Maybe a couple songs will survive but how many people can name songs from the 1900s? 1910s? 1920s? 1930s? 1940s?
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
* There are some great ones, don't feel like listing them right now.
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
* Not at all. Well, I guess you can blame the artists that just take an old beat and reuse it. But if you do what most producers do and "re-invent" old beats to modernize them and make them fresh, then there's no problem.
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
* Even though a lot of songs are sampled, there's still a lot that aren't. Our original songs will be sampled 20-30 years from now.

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
-- Pretty much what Kworb said.
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
-- The reason why people don't remember songs from the 1900s-1940s is because there wasn't a hell of a lot of music being released then. I think a select few songs will be remembered, but they won't necessarily be the most popular songs of our day.
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
-- See, this is where I CAN'T be objective. But here's my choices:
Muse - "Starlight"
Korn - "Open Up"
Depeche Mode - "Precious"
Beck - "Cellphone's Dead"
TV On The Radio - "I Was A Lover"
A Perfect Circle - "Blue"
Nine Inch Nails - "Only"
The Arcade Fire - "Wake Up"
Queens Of The Stone Age - "Go With The Flow"
System Of A Down - "Ego Brain"
(just a few of them, anyway)
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
-- Well, they will be the ones who are defining this decade, so yes, they deserve some blame, but we live in a time where people accept dumber music as good music. Hey, i'm all for dumb songs every now and then, but not as the norm. If anyone is to blame, it's the people who like these songs.
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
-- Another one that I have to agree a couple of you on. At the rate we're going, there will be nothing left to sample.

1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
Music during the 00's can be described as very electronic. Production was very big and the use of technology like computers greatly enhanced the sound of artists. Musical instruments like horns, guitars, etc also made a comeback during this time
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
Yes, it will be rememberd
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
Crazy In Love- Beyonce
Yeah!- Usher
We Belong Together- Mariah Carey
SexyBack- Justin Timberlake
Irreplaceable- Beyonce
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
I think they will remember this era as one that paid tribute to the 20th century since this is the early part of the century so they won't hold it against us.
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
They will sample us

Awesome questions Mazen. My answers are going to pertain to the Western market since other markets can be very different but also accomodate and emulate the Western market to an extent with less vice versa.
1- WHAT IS THE SOUND OF THIS ERA? The 00's . How the generation of 2099 are going to describe our music?
A: Urban music, bubblegum pop, pop/emo rock and mallcore/nu-metal with some Dance - although that was more 90's.
2- Do you think our current music is good enough to be remembered in 100 years from now?
A: Hmm I the some of the best, most popular and most controversial of each era are the ones that are usually remembered. I can't actually think of any huge waves caused by any one artist/band/group this decade like we've had before e.g. The Beatles, MJ, the Spice Girls, Britney Spears who were literally phenomenons and caused new waves of styles of music and had what we call 'world domination'. Of course there are still huge bands and artists but the most stand out ones seem to have started their succss pre-00's.
I think the current music may be remembered more then previous ones in a 100 years simply because we have better archives and multiple copies in different media e.g. Videos, CD's, DVD's, MP3/4s and not necessarily as much for the musical quality.
3- What are the remarkable songs of this decade?
A: Hmm.
4- Should we blame the artists who keep on using ol' school samples and throwback albums ,instead of "inventing"?
A: Some are done well in tribute, and some are modernised - those are ok. The ones that just have too many covers and samples e.g. Frank Sinatra'a music, beget the need to limit covers/samples. The blame for those who are diluting the market and not being original at all I think lies with those who make the decisions on who to sign and what to make/release based on monetary demographics. They seem to favour the negative attitudes in society that society doesn't need. I also think that the 'adult contemporary' market has been a reaction to that. Blame also lies with those who only want to make that kind of music/image too and those who buy into it.
5- If we are going to sample them ,who is going to sample US?
A: I wouldn't know. Although there are artists who haven't sampled and not all of those may be sampled in future though. It's also a question of whether influences come into it - many artists will have musical influences even if they don't directly sample, so unless they go out of their way to directly make something 'new' it would be difficult to say how original much music is and whether most music isn't recycled or sampled.
