Ugh, this is a mess.
I like Gaga. I like Kelly. They both **** on faves. They both have flop aspects. Can't we just end this discussion?

Dark Side was just a love it or hate it video, just because you hate it there is no reason to try and pass off this false tea that TEOG is better, it just makes y'all look pressed tbh.

I'm pressed yet who are the ones who's calling TEOG a worse song that DS? I'm telling lies yet who's the one saying it was shot on an iPhone?

It becomes rather tedious and repetitive when certain people randomly start attacking a fav in a different base, isn't it?

I guess I'll go out on a limb here and assume that, again, you're referring to me since I brought this up. I didn't "attack" Gaga. I was commenting back because I disagreed that her videos are amazing. Some of them, yes, they are. This was all in context to a potential Kelly/Gaga collab, so it wasn't like it was that off topic or anything. We all have our opinions and that's all it really boils down to. I like Gaga a lot and have consistently said she's very talented. You were the one that took it much further and, again, slammed Kelly in the process of preaching how much better you feel TEOG video is.
And I like you Edge, but what's more tedious and repetitive is when you start attacking Kelly in her own base, IMO.
Plenty of things are said in every base about multiple artists. They're all in the industry and thus comparisons will always be made.

A few things to note.
A Demi / Kelly duet would be terrible, remain album filler, and no one but 5 year olds would be here for it.
The Edge of Glory video and Song is better than Dark Side. Critics agree.
Dark Side is a better song than Mr Know It All, but it's video its inferior to Mr. Know it All. The DS video is just really really boring, cliche and uneventful. Even when the song becomes a hit, it's playcount will remain at zero.

DS and TEOG are about equal as songs for me, except I think the DS instrumental is wearisome after a while.
DS video >>> TEOG video. That's just my personal preference because I feel like the DS video had a real message, and it was cool seeing those different stories intertwined. TEOG (song) has an amazing message that I think a proper video could have capitalized on. The video just distracted from it imo.
NEXT
A Kelly/Demi duet would slay but I do agree that the public might not be too hyped about it. I say let Demi blow up on her next album, with the help of X Factor, and when she gains enough respect, let the duet happen. She's talented enough to hold her own though.
Right now, I'm praying for a Pink duet. They've both got that Pop/Rock thing with R&B capacities too. I have high hopes!
Also, to the stans that constantly feel the need to trash Kelly to prove their points:
Y'all can be so negative. Don't need that crap.

Fine. This time you didn't 'attack.' You were just being antagonistic. Does that word suit you better? And there was no 'slamming' on Kelly on my part. I only re-hashed what I originally said about Dark Side and the most I came to 'slamming' Kelly was by saying her outfit was cheap looking, which many of you and the rest of ATRL has agreed upon at one point, and that the video was boring, which I have always said and still believe.
TEOG is by far the superior song. This isn't an opinion. This is fact, agreed upon by the stans, GP and critics. Me saying TEOG video is better than Dark Side is an opinion, based on what I expect from a MV.
And me being critical of Kelly is not equivalent of 'slamming' or 'attacking.' It means I wish she wasn't as closed minded as she usually is. Musically and lyrically, the Stronger era remains stagnant. I am hoping she progresses away from this sound and usual 'angry' and 'empowerment' lyrics. Image wise, she has grown immensely and I am very pleased so far. I hope she maintains this growth and doesn't recede into another My December which leads to another unpromoted AIEW.

I don't want to continue this debate at all, I just don't get y'all saying "critics agree" that TEOG is superior as a song and MV. If there are any direct comparisons between the two songs from a critic, please point me in that direction. Both songs were given positive critical reviews and I have seen mostly positive (but some negative) reviews for both videos. In fact, I've seen both videos praised for taking a simple approach to let the songs stand on their own. Seems pretty even to me. DS will likely not perform as well as TEOG did, but that doesn't mean TEOG is better.. I mean, neither will perform as well as Call Me Maybe.

Demi/Kelly: I am indifferent at this point. I think I'd prefer a Jojo/Kelly at this point.
TEOG: Always there to speak the truth.
DS vs MKIA: It's a toss up for me but MKIA still hasn't grown old for me while DS already has. I can't seem to ***** it out like I did/do with WDKY. WDKY and DS are songs in the same vein with a soft melody building up to a crashing chorus. And if I had to choose between those two songs, I'd go with WDKY. MKIA remains unbothered and fresh sounding even after all this time.

You can be tough on Kelly (sometimes excessively so) but I have to say that I agree with that statement.
Apart from a few new sounds (the 70s stuff on Alone, YLM and the more experimentation into Country), it's pretty much standard Kelly Clarkson stuff.
I hope there's a bit of a departure in sound for next era. Maybe she could bring back some of those Mariah runs from Thankful and couples them with a more urban or dancier sound. Also, I wouldn't be opposed to some POP collaborations. Give us something fresh next time!

So can we finally stop this discussion, we've established alongside everyone who ever watched TEOG video that Dark Side is the superior video.
The Edge Of Gloryholes will have to take a seat in the comedy section.
Now let's move on to more pressing issues, arguing about promo, sales and possible duets.
|
Anyways, yes time for another discussion. What TV promo can Kelly do? I know Ellen's not on until September... So there's Kimmel, The View...

TEOG is noted as a standout on BTW. an album that got higher reviews than Stronger. Dark Side was largely ignored by most critics. A standout track from a high reviewed album > a track looked over by most reviewers.

Now more important things: Stronger (Album) rises 3 spots to #25 on the UK album chart. Even though it fell like 20 spots to #57 on iTunes. We must be getting loads of physical sales.

It has been reduced in price in quite a few places recently which may explain why it has increased
