I'll tone it down: Lana is just an uninteresting, basic person. Her music is incredibly overhyped. Madonnas said it best a few days ago when he said she's the artist basics stan for so they can pretend they have good taste. Her lyrics are awful, substanceless fluff and videos utterly predictable. I don't think she's a good live performer in the slightest, doesn't have an interesting persona or give great interviews, and just isn't the type of musician that Lady Gaga should associate with. really question her authenticity and way she got into the industry, but that's a separate issue.
There's a difference between her reluctance to collaborate with her contemporaries and wanting to maintain a solid musical image. There are plenty of artists (Florence, Kanye, Janelle Monae, Azealia, to name a few) who are near her age and are quality musicians with artistic credibility (their albums are acclaimed). Lana is not one of those people, and I don't think it's a risk worth taking at all. Gaga could do so much better.
