Kendrick Lamar on Lady Gaga Collaboration
Quote:
During Kendrick Lamar's Pitchfork Music Festival set there was a Lady GaGa sighting off stage. The two are recently linked through a few tweets a week ago where GaGa praised Kendrick Lamar and his music.
Recently TheSource.com caught up on with K-Dot to get the inside scoop of what is going on with the two. "That's just a really close friend," explained the Compton MC.
As for a possible future collaboration between the two he says, "we'll see.... for now I'm just enjoying the friendship."
Kendrick Lamar is readying the release of his highly anticipated album, good kid, m.A.A.d city via TDE/Aftermath/Interscope October 2nd.
Would you be interested in hearing a Kendrick-Lady GaGa collaboration?

Yes! And I don't want her to just sing hooks. I want a verse from her too (I'll take a bridge if a verse is too much). I want her to use her real singing voice and I want her to revive her MIA/Santigold impression. I'm so excited at the possibility of this happening.

A collaboration... Kendrick and Gaga are polar opposites. Unless they intend to mix and clash, his subject matter would have to lighten and Gaga would have to, for lack of a better word, relax.

He's pretty famous in the hip hop world. He's a rapper that got signed to Interscope I think (by Dr. Dre). He'll never make it big, since Interscope is an awful record label, and doesn't know how to promote urban artists anymore. It plays 2nd fiddle to Young Money/Cash Money and Def Jam/Roc Nation. His most famous song is probably The Recipe, it's really good.
I hope he doesn't collaborate with Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga has no urban credibility. She's the reason why urban radio wouldn't play Video Phone. It would be a very bad idea for Kendrick to collab with her, plus, he's probably homophobic, so Lady Gaga shouldn't collab with him. They're not even friends, they're just on the same record label. They should stay away from each other, for both their sakes. It would be a shame for Kendrick to get such a backlash right at the start of his mainstream success.

Get out of here with all that, please.
And who are you to say Kendrick is homophobic? You're just bleeding ignorance.
I don't think they will collaborate, at least not on his album, nothing I've heard from Kendrick has been similar to anything GaGa does, but I think he could fit well on a Lady GaGa track. His flow is one of the best I've ever heard.
For those out of the loop when it comes to Kendrick Lamar, check out the Section.80 mixtape released last year (Kush & Corinthians, Rigamortis, A.D.H.D., especially), as well as "Swimming Pools", "The Recipe" and "Cartoon & Cereal". That last track is the best rap song of 2012.

For the record, I like Kendrick. I just don't think ANY rapper should collab with Lady Gaga. It's a bad thing to do on both sides.
I don't have a clue if he's homophobic (most rappers "are" though). A lot of Lady Gaga fans think all rappers are homophobic. Look how gutted they were when she did a song with Wale. A lot of her fans just see a rapper and think "Ew, homophobe", whether they actually are or not is a different question. She should stay away from them completely. She should just do her own thing, she doesn't need to resort to collabing with rappers anymore to stay relevent.
Kendrick will lose all credibility if he does a song with her. Let's see, he does a hip hop song with Gaga. Urban radio won't play it, since it has Gaga, and pop radio won't play it, since it's not a dance song. Yeah, that's a FANTASTIC idea. They just bumped into each other at an Interscope brainwashing meeting. It's not a big deal.

1) no it is cause video phone is horrible, sorry
2) He is probably homophobic? What kind of gross assumption is that
3) He just said they are friends and she went to go support him even though she had no ulterior motive too. She could have just done something else instead of listen to his set.

What kind of fume on this thread?
I don't care about who Gaga's friends with. They are indeed musical polar opposites and if they collaborate it might not work out, some hip-hop purists and posers will seethe and deal. Not all music is made to please radio or an audience.

Video Phone is a brilliant song imo. It's not awful, although obviously you won't like it if you don't like urban songs. But songs similar to that are urban hits all the time. Birthday Cake is the most recent example. And Beyonce certainly isn't the reason for that song flopping.
Kendrick Lamar is amazing. This collab should never, ever, ever happen, as I want him to be successful, that's all. Collaboriation can kill careers. Beyonce was lucky in that she's already very well established, and can afford some flops every now and then.
There's probably nothing to worry about anyway, I doubt they'll do it, unless Interscope force them to.
